Defensive Driving Saves Life

I went to an HSE Talk yesterday about defensive driving. It was a good topic.

When the speaker asked, “What is the most risky action you took while driving?”

80% of the room answered, “Drive thru red lights and not wearing seatbelt.”

Hmmm…something to think about…

So here I would like to share some of the points during the talk with you all.

What is Defensive Driving?

It’s about what you can do while driving to protect yourself, your passengers and other road users from getting into any incident in the first place.

1 :: Safety Bubble

  • make space around your vehicle by using the 3 second rule (distance between your car and the car in front of you)
  • use headlight/horn to make you visible to the other road users i.e in parking lot or during rain

2 :: Anticipate Danger

  • look far – anticipate what’s in front of you i.e school, winding road and make a quick judgement i.e bring down your speed, etc.
  • keep your eyes moving – scan around you by looking at the side/rearview mirror

3 :: POWER Vehicle Check

  • Pressure
  • Oil
  • Water
  • Electrical
  • Rubber

“Safety may not be comfortable, but it’s there for a reason”
